CCAC Horticulture
Welcome to the Horticulture Technology Program web page.
The Community College of Allegheny County is the largest provider of educational
services in Western Pennsylvania and the nation’s 16th largest
multi-campus community college. The Horticulture Program is based at the South
Campus, located in West Mifflin, just south of Pittsburgh.
The program offers associate degrees, certificates and
diplomas in floriculture, landscape design, and landscape and turfgrass
management. Traditional classroom based learning is supplemented with practical
hands-on experience in the greenhouses and display gardens. Some courses are
offered as Internet based distance-learning classes that can be taken without
the need for weekly trips to the campus. We offer classes that can prepare you
to take the Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s core exam and categories 6 and
7.
The faculty in the program are involved with the
Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association and the Pennsylvania Floral
Industry Association, two professional organizations. Students in the program
can attend industry related activities or meet professionals in the field
through trips to local gardens and businesses.
